Walking with Jesus

When you walk with Jesus everyone sees you
They point at you and think they know you.
They feel better about themselves and the world
And cheer in their own minds for something they know doesn't matter.

Jesus walks silently among the crowd for he is no longer him,
Now he's the regular Mario, the man from Mira Road.
He once was Jesus, and fell thrice to his knees
As he walked after meeting Pontius Pilate to be crucified.

The kids point and smile, but he pretends
Like he has no idea who they are talking about
He talks about his life, his mundane life in which
His only wife and daughter never saw him become Jesus

The time he walked and fell harder to impress others
Or when he swooned in pain as the cross hung heavy on his back
With only some mince and bread in his stomach
A prayer on his parched lips and bad actors trying to comfort him

He now says he works only for Jesus
And cures people of things they await their Lord to cure.
He gives them hope when they think all is lost
But has never misused his power over them.

Mario watches the enactment and praises Jesus this year
A good choice he is and he can act,
But he still needs a lot to learn and
Maybe by next year he will be ready for this.
